How to Lose Weight!

How to Lose Weight!

One of the most common questions I get as a personal trainer is how to lose weight.  Well, I'm gonna answer that question for you today.  Just keep in mind that permanent weight loss takes time.  After all, the weight wasn't put on overnight.  Here are three tips that I incorporate with my clients that will help you lose weight.

1. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER

This one may seem obvious, but it’s important to drink lots of water throughout the day. Water will keep you hydrated and full of energy throughout the day. Water also acts as an appetite suppressant.  It keeps your muscles fed with nutrients and oxygen, and cleanses the body of waste. Try to drink at least half your body weight in ounces for optimal hydration.

2. Increase Calorie Output Through Exercise

When you're trying to lose weight you must create a caloric deficit.  We can do that by either decreasing the number of calories we are consuming, or increasing the number of calories we burn.
Working out will not only help you increase the number of calories you burn, it will make you look and feel better. Once you start looking and feeling better, it gets a lot easier to improve your diet. When it comes to choosing what type of exercise you do, the most important thing is that it’s something you will stick to.

3. Decrease Calorie Input Through Diet Changes

The second way to create a calorie deficit is to decrease the number of calories you are consuming.  We do this by adapting your diet to get the most out of your calories. All foods have different caloric values. Foods like fruits and vegetables have lower caloric values when compared to foods like pasta and breads.
You will get fuller faster when eating higher calorie foods. So consuming the same amount of calories as you are now (or fewer if possible) from lower calorie foods, but getting more nutritional value from them will help you feel fuller for longer and lose weight more quickly as a result.

4. Create A Caloric Deficit

Essentially, losing weight comes down to achieving a consistent calorie deficit. That is, you need to burn more calories than you consume. If you eat 2,500 calories in a day  and burn 3,000, you are in a calorie deficit. The fastest way to lose weight is by improving your diet and upping your exercise intensity to achieve a calorie deficit.
I assure you that if you throw yourself into cardio, weight training and healthy eating, you will see your body and well being improving, and the numbers moving in the right direction. Need a personal trainer? Call us today (505) 261-1253.
